(One Vision) The 2026 Season

Starting my final year of highschool I gave myself one goal as a photographer. Cover the entire Shawnee Mission East football season. This project was something I had always wanted to do, cover a team through their entire season. My closest friends, teammates, and coaches from the year before were on board as well. It started in May 2025 and ended in October 2025. Besides one varsity football game which I missed due to my own varsity soccer game I made every game of the season and many more photoshoots with my schools team.

It all started with me taking all of the seniors photos for their senior banners in May of 2025 so we had enough time to edit cutout and then print the banners for the first game "Lancer Day"

Our second shoot is a senior only media day we did in the Kansas City Work House, a abandoned castle that was used as a jail and then attempted to be reworked into many different uses by the Kansas City government until it was eventually abandoned and then now is left abandoned and unattended.

First Two Away Games

The First two away games were Topeka Seaman a 1 hour 30 minute drive i made on my own with what was the start to a 104 degree fever but was worth it with the win and result we got on our first road game, a absolute blowout. The blowout story was about to happen again and we expected it. The next game at Mill Valley the superior power house in Kansas 5A football which won the state championship four times in a row 2020-2023. After making Mill Valley four-and-out their first 2 series and housing a kick return we thought we were set. Then the power house that Mill Valley is hit and they took over the game holding us to two more touchdowns the rest of the game.

Lawrence and SM North

After missing my only game of the season at Olathe South i was on the road again to Lawrence for the Lancers game against the Chesty Lions and then back home the next week for homecoming against Shawnee Mission North in the "Nut Cup". The Lancers were on a roll and looking at a top five maybe three playoff spot after these two wins.

The Turn

The turn was the second play of the Hy-Vee game of the week tv cameras everywhere for SM East vs Olathe West winner would probably go on to win the Sunflower League and have a chance for the #1 or #2 seed in the east for the playoffs. A sweep to the left with our quarterback Jack Reeves who was averaging almost 212 yards a game at the time is pulled down by the collar and bang. Jack is on the ground yelling and grabbing his knee. A sprained MCL and ACL.

The End

The Lancers found themselves against the Blue Valley West Jaguars in the first round of the playoffs. A team from the Eastern Kansas League that was 2-6 going into the game. There was no comparison for us nobody we had played in our Sunflower League season had seen them. The lancers fell to the Jaguars and the team predominately made up of seniors who had worked every day in the weight-room after school during the off season and attended every summer workout and was planning for this season had ended their high school careers. What lasted was a memory everyone says has been their favorite from high school and a new culture. A culture three years ago when SME appointed their new head coach Mark Seminau, he knew he would be able to make through these seniors.
